Purification treatment in compliance with IMO regulations
In addition to wastewater treatment, Triqua also provides oil/water separation processes. These processes are executed using a plate separator system followed by a UF membrane technique.
Our systems can be used on board ships, within the offshore industry and at harbour reception facilities. With this system, the bilge water is treated so that a high-quality effluent is guaranteed in conformity with IMO regulations (MEPC 107.(49)).
Oil/Water separation can also be applied in the oil and gas industry.
Advantages of oil water separation
The process of oil water separation results in a number of distinct advantages:
- Post-treatment of direct discharge into the sea (ships) is possible
- Post-treatment of discharge into the sewer or a sewage treatment plant (land) is possible
- Low maintenance costs
- Low chemical cost
- Compact system
Oil water separation in practice
In collaboration with the Royal Dutch Navy, Triqua has completed a project to treat bilge water from navy vessels and pressure water from submarines. The bilge and pressure water has a high concentration of free oil and is further concentrated (200 to 300 times) using ultra filtration membranes. The oil-rich concentrate is sent for incineration and the permeate is treated in a Membrane Bioreactor. The MBR effluent is subsequently discharged into the harbour.
SEIC (The Sakhalin Energy Investment Company) (Gazprom, Shell, Mitsui and Mitsubishi Ltd.) For this project we built a special unit that is able to meet the local requirements. First, the solids are flocculated in the water, after which a special plate filter is used to discharge the oil and excrete the solids simultaneously. Next, two safety filters are deployed, after which the water has been through its first purification phase. The entire system has been built in a sea container, thereby reducing transport problems to a minimum.
